The Games of Life...

Why am I always so wide awake when I go to bed and so darn tired when I awake? That's another blog all together, but anyway, I was lying in bed one night trying to get to sleep and I began to think about all the games I had played throughout my life. I began to realize that in every stage of my life, games played (pun intended) a major role. They were the single, consistent string that could tie all of the years together. And they defined so much of who I was at that time and probably more of a role in my development than I'd care to admit. My mind was absolutely racing as I thought about game after game. And these games were so different and with so many different people. It might have been as complex as a game of Go or as simple as a game of fireball with the neighborhood kids in my carport. It might be as old school as Paydirt - played on a board game with dice or as high tech as fantasy football on CBSSportsline.com. But both games played with the same usual suspects of friends - only 20 years older. It might be playing quarters with my dad or scrabble with my mom - but both playing the same roll of distraction during a tumultuous divorce.

My point is all of these games played a critical role in my development and my relationships with people. And I've only scratched the surface. I'm going to continue on this path down memory lane and I will use games as my timeline. Each post on this blog, I'll reflect on a game and talk about its impact on me by the lessons I learned or the relationships I gained...or lost. Maybe some of those games will strike a chord with some of you. Feel free to comment and share your memories or thoughts on any particular game I mention. This should be fun. Who knows, maybe this help resurrect some of the oldies but goodies like fireball, hot-butter-biscuit or Odyssey (anyone remember that old school video game system?) Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy this blog as I'll surely get a kick out of sharing my journey through the Games of Life...
